Superbowl Sunday

The first recipe I chose to tackle was to make a superbowl themed appetizer. I spent some time thinking about classic appetizers that would be good to do, and went with pretzel bites because I thought it might be a bit harder to achieve.

At first I struggled with what the recipe wanted me to do- I’d never personally added butter to a yeast mixture (and I don’t think I will again!). So my dough was not looking like how I think it was supposed to look. At this point I was thinking It was going to be a total failure.

Luckily the dough did rise a bit! The next step was to cut the pieces up and do the baking soda wash. I think the recipe used A LOT of baking soda for this step. I also did the egg wash and think I went with a bit too much egg. When they came out of the oven they definitely seemed more eggy than I think they were supposed to.

I tasted some and the smaller ones had a weird aftertaste (I think it was the baking soda), but the ones with more surface area I think were better.

To finish things off I made a cheese/Dijon dip that I actually think turned out really good! I packed it all up and had to rush to the superbowl party I was attending with some fellow PDPP students. All in all, I think I made some mistakes with the recipe/maybe would choose a different recipe in the future but I think it went okay in the end!
